The Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery was started in 1969 under the banner of Association of Oral Surgeons of India (AOSI).
Its founders included :
•Late Dr MSN Ginwalla •Dr C.K. Dhanasekharan •Late Dr C.G. Raju •Late Dr.K. Ramachandran •Late Dr S.S. Khera •Dr A.P. Chitre.
- The AOSI was officially affiliated to the International Association during the Sydney conference in 1977.
- The AOSI was renamed as Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (AOMSI) in 1985.
- The AOMSI is a registered organization and admits qualified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons as Life or Annual members.
- The Association is committed to the promotion of the specialty through its scientific deliberation and social causes.
The Delhi State Chapter of AOMSI was first formed in 2004. In the year 2010 AOMSI started forming new state chapters by the EC members which are affiliated to AOMSI and constitutionally recognised. The Delhi State Chapter of AOMSI was then reconstituted the same year & renamed as Delhi NCR State Chapter of AOMSI.The objective of Delhi NCR State Chapter of AOMSI is to promote the speciality of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery in the state of Delhi-NCR by increasing awareness towards Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery amongst general public domain. It also provides an equal opportunity for different Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons coming from this region to have a common platform to discuss their clinical & scientific experiences along with academic activities. The communication of any member from this region to the national governing body of AOMSI can always be enhanced when it is through Delhi NCR state chapter of AOMSI. The Delhi NCR state chapter holds its conference once annually, along with other scientific & professional activities time to time all year long. 13th February is celebrated as “Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons Day”. On this day the chapter members have been regularly conducting scientific activities in the dental institutions, hospitals in the Delhi NCR region promoting the speciality and increasing awareness among general public.
